How does East Asian Medicine work:

East Asian medicine recognizes the vital energy behind all life forms as Qi (chi).

In developing an understanding of the prevention and cure of disease, these healing East Asian practitioners discovered that this energy flows along specific pathways called ‘meridians’. Each pathway is associated with a particular physiological system and internal organ. Disease is considered to arise due to a deficiency, stagnation and/or an imbalance of energy in the meridians and their associated physiological systems.

Acupuncture points are specific locations along the meridians. Each point has a predictable effect upon body. An Acupuncturist chooses specific acupuncture points to rid the body of pain and disease by helping “qi” flow along these pathways uninhibited. Each acupuncture treatment is individualized for the person receiving the treatment.

The NIH estimates that over 8.2 million US adults have used acupuncture in the past and its popularity is growing due to its high level of effectiveness and low risk.

Acupuncture, herbal therapy, bodywork and nutrition are accepted by the National Institute of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) for treatment of over 200 common medical conditions.

Acupuncture Treats Pain

Whether you know a lot or a little about Acupuncture you have probably heard that it is successfully used to reduce and/or relieve acute or chronic pain.  Acupuncture does a great job of helping to reduce inflammation in the body and promote healing.

One way Acupuncture facilitates in reducing pain and in speeding the healing process is through it’s ability to bring more blood flow to an injured area.  By increasing blood flow to an injured area, you also increase the white blood cell count to that area.  White blood cells are part of the immune system that helps to fight infections and decrease inflammation, thereby helping the body to heal more quickly.  The blood in the body also carries nutrients in it, by increasing blood flow to an injured part of the body, you also increase nutritional supply to this area which in turn gives that area of the body all the nutrients it needs to heal.

Using Acupuncture on a regular basis will heal injuries more quickly and dramatically decrease, if not eradicate, pain from your body. Treatments also decrease the likelihood of injuring yourself in the future.
